Odella Lanier

Mrs. Odella Lanier, 88, of 9077 Halifax Rd. Java, VA departed this life on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at SOVAH Health Martinsville.

She was born September 30, 1935 in Pittsylvania County, VA.  She was the daughter of the late Elijah and Chessie Waller Whitehead. She was married to Charlie Lanier, who predeceased her.

She was a member of Shockoe Missionary Baptist Church, Java, VA where she served on the usher board. She was retired from Chatham Knitting Mill.

Those left to cherish her memories are a son; Jaris T. Lanier (Judy) of Martinsville, VA, two daughters; Karen L. Jones (Amos) and Jacqueline L. Miller (Chris) both of Java, VA; one sister, Rosa Jones, two step-sisters, Betty Jean Walker (Bobby) and Elna Witcher all of Chatham, VA; one brother-in-law, Norman Jones of Baltimore, MD; two sisters-in law, Minnie Alice Lanier of Ft. Washington, MD and Bertie Whitehead of Atlanta, GA, nine grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, March 18 at 1:00 p.m. from Shockoe Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Antonel Myler, Sr., Eulogist. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday, March 17, 2024 from 4-6 p.m. from the Chapel of Howerton Funeral Home.
